A simple guide to building your first pour-over setup
The Hario V60 has become the go-to choice for anyone starting out with pour-over coffee - and for good reason. It’s affordable, beautiful, and capable of producing clean, complex cups when brewed well. But beyond the dripper itself, there are a few essential tools that can really elevate your brew.
Here’s what we recommend every beginner starts with - and yes, we’ve got your back with some favourites in stock!
1. A Quality Dripper
You can’t go wrong with the original Hario V60, but if you’re after something a little more refined, the MHW-3BOMBER Elf Glass Dripper is a beautiful alternative.
Made from heat-resistant glass, it retains temperature well and lets you watch the brewing process as it unfolds - a nice touch for anyone just starting out.

2. Paper Filters (V60-02)
Make sure you’re using the right filters - most drippers (including the Elf) use the standard V60-02 size. Always rinse the filter before brewing to get rid of any papery taste and warm up the dripper.

3. Gooseneck Kettle
The pour-over method is all about control - and a gooseneck kettle, as the name suggests, gives you just that.
We recommend one with a steady flow rate and a comfortable grip. If you’re starting out, our sleek black pour-over kettle does the job beautifully, without breaking the bank.

4. Coffee Server or Carafe
If you’re brewing for more than one, or simply want to decant your brew into something elegant, a coffee server is essential.
We stock the Elf Jug (a minimalist glass jug that pairs perfectly with the Elf dripper) and the Hill Coffee Server — a modern take on the classic glass carafe.

5. Scale with Timer
A digital scale ensures you’re using the right coffee-to-water ratio, which is the foundation of any good brew. Look for one with:
-
0.1g accuracy
-
A built-in timer
-
Water resistance if possible
If you don’t have one yet, even a basic kitchen scale is better than eyeballing.

6. Fresh Coffee & Grinder
Freshness matters. If you’re buying whole beans (you should), you’ll need a burr grinder — manual or electric.
For V60, aim for a medium-fine grind, similar to sea salt.
If you’re not ready to invest in a grinder, buy from local roasters and ask them to grind for V60.

7. Glassware That Feels Special
The cup you drink from is part of the ritual. Our double-walled coffee glasses are designed to keep your brew warm while staying cool to the touch — and they look great on any counter.

Optional: Stir Stick / WDT Tool
If you want to take it one step further, use a stir stick to break up dry spots during bloom and encourage even saturation.
